Masks provide a powerful boost to your skin care regimen. Formulated to deliver intense benefits, masks can deeply cleanse, soften texture, reset moisture levels, balance oil output and reduce the occurrence of blackheads, whiteheads and acne.
Facial masks typically fall into three basic categories: clay or mud masks, peel-off masks and cream or gel masks. Mud masks, such as Sea Mineral Mud Mask or our Sea Clear 10-Minute Mattifying Mud Mask, draw out impurities and help tighten pores. Peel-off masks lift away dull surface cells to reveal radiant, youthful skin. Finally, cream and gel treatments such as Hydrating Marine Mask intensely hydrate and nourish depleted skin, leaving it soft and supple and looking virtually lineless.
Typically, you shouldn't use a mask more than once a week. You should avoid even gentle masks if skin is sunburned, inflamed or infected, or has cuts or open wounds.
Cleanse. Most facial masks need to sit for 10 to 20 minutes. Make sure your skin is properly cleansed before you apply a mask to prevent impurities from penetrating deep into pores. Pat your face dry with a clean towel. Masks need to dry on your skin to be most effective.
Apply. Pull back your hair so that you can apply the mask to your entire face and neck, always avoiding the eye area. Use your fingers or a Mask Brush to spread on a thin layer. Sit back, relax and allow the mask to do its work. Do not allow the mask to sit longer than the recommended time on the package as some ingredients can harm skin if left too long.
