How To Cleanse Your Face

Cleansing your face daily is the foundation of any good skin care regimen. It removes the dirt and oil that can clog pores and lead to breakouts, stimulates circulation to impart a youthful glow, and provides vital nutrients to keep skin looking healthy. The key is to have the correct combination of products and practices to ensure that impurities, makeup and excess oils are removed without irritating or drying the skin.

Even if you have oily skin, you should wash your face only twice a day to protect against stripping, irritating or dehydrating the skin. That's why it's essential to have the correct cleanser for the job. Most cleansers fall into three categories: gel for oily skin, foam for normal skin and cream for dry skin.

Oily Skin: An oil-free cleanser like Marine Cleansing Gel will remove excess surface oil and mattify skin to help reduce shine all day.

Normal Skin: Use a soap-free foaming facial cleanser, such as Face Oasis™ Cleansing Water, to lift away impurities without stripping skin's natural protective layer.

Dry or Sensitive Skin: A mild, hypoallergenic cleansing lotion like our Sea Mineral Cleanser will calm and hydrate skin while gently removing impurities.

Step-by-Step Guide
  1. Wash your hands right before you wash your face. Dirty hands will rub more oil and debris into your pores.
  2. Pull back your hair. This will ensure you wash your entire face, including near the hairline. Try our Aquis® Microfiber Headband, keeps hair in place without snagging or pulling.
  3. Remove eye makeup. Mascara and eyeliner can be stubborn and it's tempting to scrub, but it's important to treat the delicate skin around the eye gently. Use a soothing formula like Dual-Action Eye Makeup Remover to protect skin while lifting away even the most tenacious eye makeup.
  4. Dampen your face. Never wash your face with hot water, as it can irritate inflamed skin and stimulate oil overproduction. Always use lukewarm water.
  5. Apply cleanser. Use your fingers, a soft cloth or a Facial Cleansing Brush. Massage the formula over your face and neck in soft, circular motions for a minimum of one minute so that the ingredients have the opportunity to penetrate your skin.
  6. Rinse. Wash the cleanser off your hands and splash lukewarm water on your face several times, making sure all residue is removed.
  7. Splash with cold water. This helps to close the pores and stimulate healthy circulation for a rosy glow.
  8. Gently blot your face with a clean towel to remove excess water. Never rub or scrub.
  9. Finish by toning, moisturizing and applying targeted treatments.
